UPDATE: Urgent Drug Recall Information – Multi-State Outbreak of Meningitis Following Epidural Injections
There has been concern related to steroid use and the outbreak of meningitis following spinal injections. We wanted to assure our patients that they are not in any danger from the steroids that we have and will continue to use. The steroids in question were manufactured at a compounding pharmacy. Our office and the hospitals we perform the injections at do not order their supplies from compounding pharmacies. Dr. McCauley uses Kenalog 40mg, a steroid produced by Bristol-Meyers Squibb which is a pharmaceutical company. We understand the concern associated with this recall and outbreak and again just wanted to assure our patients that the steroids we use are not implicated in this recall. Here is the link to further information available from the International Spinal Intervention Society:

Evaluating Your Pain

  • Can you describe the pain??
  • How would you rate the pain using a scale from 0 to 10?
  • When did the pain start and how long does it last?
  • Is the pain worse during certain times of the day or night?
  • Where on your body are you experiencing pain?
  • Does the pain move or travel?
  • Have you taken any medications to relieve the pain?
  • Have you noticed particular activities or positions that aggravate the pain?

Figuring out the answers to these types of questions and having the answers available for our doctor can be helpful to the doctor in trying to figure out where your pain is coming from and how best to treat it.  We recommend creating a pain diary.
